CON BRIO PIANO STUDIO STUDENT POLICIES AND ETIQUETTE

Your Weekly Lesson – What to Expect

The goal of our lesson together is a time to gain feedback and direction of your current music projects that have been practiced over the week; as well as to learn new concepts, methods, and ideas to carry into each new week of your independent practice. A practice session will include things like warm up exercises, scales, sight reading, repertoire learning, theory, and memorization. Additional time spent on improvisation and composition is always fun to incorporate as well. New assignments, tailored to your progress and level, will be given at each lesson.

Your Weekly Lesson is intended to promote creativity, proficiency, well-being, and cognitive development.

Please consider the following:

    • Your weekly slot is reserved for your exclusive use every week, whether you use it or not:

    • If you are unable to attend a lesson, please notify us by email as soon as possible. Please give at least 48 hours notice.

    • If you have a week that you do not attend your lesson, you will simply forgo that week’s worth of instruction.

    • If you must be absent for a week, you are expected to still maintain a daily practice routine until our next class, working from my most recent notes.

How to Become a Pianist - Etiquette & Expectations

A consistent practice schedule is key to achieving progression at the piano. We form our habits and our habits form us. I will help you to create and strengthen a habit of quality consistency within your piano pursuits, and in no time at all, you will be formed into a proficient pianist.

As a student of Con Brio, you are committing to complete your weekly practice goals and assignments that are personally given to you at each lesson.

    • View your piano practice as an essential daily ritual. Consistent piano practice nurtures your musical well-being. Make it a priority to allocate time for your practice sessions each day by creating a practice schedule that works best for you. Whether it's in the morning, afternoon, or evening, establishing a routine ensures that you are actively engaging with the piano on a regular basis, fostering a deeper connection with the instrument and allowing for steady improvement.

Remember, the more you invest in your practice, the more you will reap the rewards. Treat your piano practice as an indispensable part of your daily life, and you will witness the transformative power it holds. Embrace the discipline, commitment, and joy that come with consistent practice, and let your passion for music flourish through your dedicated efforts.

    • To maximize your retention during our times together, you are to have daily access to your Online Piano Portal (Google Classroom). We suggest that once the week’s practice objectives are posted, you print them off and have them at your piano for daily reference. Printing it off is a great way to ensure your practice time is free of electronics and distractions. Google Classroom can be accessed using the mobile app or on a computer. We ask that both methods be readily available to you.

    • Students are asked to also keep a personal notebook so that you can take note of your key points and instruction tips from week to week.

    • You will need to keep a record of your practice time throughout the week and are committing to practice a minimum of 5 days a week.

    • Please supply a 3-ring binder for sheet music, practice notes, handouts, etc.

    • “How to Practice” coaching is a huge part of your piano education at Con Brio Piano Studio; additionally, questions and ideas regarding being an efficient learner are always welcome!

    • Should a student consistently default these standards, their weekly slot may be evaluated, and could result in dismissal.
