Parent policies & rubric

At Con Brio Piano Studio, we believe that parental involvement is essential for the success of your child's piano education. To ensure a fruitful learning experience, we request that parents adhere to the following policies.

1) Home Practice Support:

  • Parental involvement is an integral part of a child's piano journey. To support their progress and ensure that weekly goals are being met, we ask that parents actively participate in their child's practice at home for a minimum of two days per week. By sitting at the piano alongside your child, you can provide the guidance, encouragement, and supervision needed to keep their practice on track.

  • By dedicating a few days each week to practicing with your child, you become an active participant in their musical education, fostering their love for music and helping them progress on their piano journey. Your involvement will make a significant difference in their development, instilling discipline, perseverance, and a lifelong appreciation for music.

  • We understand that parents may have varying levels of musical experience or knowledge. Rest assured that the week’s practice objectives in the student’s Online Piano Portal (Google Classroom) provide guidance and resources to assist you in supporting your child's practice effectively. We will work together to ensure that you have the necessary tools and understanding to assist your child in achieving their musical goals.

2) Time Management and Assignment Review:

  • Parents are expected to aid their child in managing their practice time effectively and reviewing the weekly assignments provided. By actively engaging in their practice routine, you can help them stay organized and focused on their musical goals. Together, we can ensure that your child receives the most out of their piano education at Con Brio Piano Studio.

3) Active Participation in the Online Piano Portal, Google Classroom:

  • Parents are required to assist their child in actively participating in our Online Piano Portal (Google Classroom) throughout the week. We ask that parents confirm their child's practice time and, if possible, provide written feedback relevant to their progress. Our Online Piano Portal serves as a valuable tool for communication and tracking your child's development. By engaging in our Online Piano Portal, you can stay connected with your child's learning journey and offer valuable insights that contribute to their musical growth.

  • Parents are to ensure that the student is referring to and working from the weekly practice assignment so that the student is adequately prepared for the next lesson.

  • Parents have the option to print the week's practice assignment once it has been posted following the lesson. This can ensure that the piano is free of electronics and potential distractions.

  • We understand that every child has unique learning needs, and some parents prefer to "transcribe" the practice assignments in a way that better suits their child's understanding. This approach can facilitate the process of breaking down the tasks into manageable steps, ensuring a comfortable and progressive practice routine. Our goal is to support both you and your child in their musical journey, and we encourage you to personalize the practice assignments to create an optimal learning experience. Should you have any questions or need assistance in adapting or relaying the assignments, please don't hesitate to reach out.

  • Together, we can create a collaborative and supportive environment for your child's piano education at Con Brio Piano Studio.

4) Encouraging Practice:

  • Consistent and focused practice is key to progress. Unprepared lessons cost the same as prepared ones, but their value is substantially compromised.

  • Con Brio places great emphasis on the significance of music engagement as a cohesive family unit. When music is pursued and valued by the entire family, it encourages children to actively seek out musical opportunities and maintain regular practice habits. By actively seeking and attending music events together, cultivating a home environment filled with quality music, experiencing live performances, and expressing genuine admiration for accomplished musicians, families can effectively communicate that music and fine arts hold a cherished place within their values. This nurturing and immersive musical environment fosters a profound appreciation for music and serves as a wellspring of inspiration, empowering children to wholeheartedly embrace their musical journey with unwavering enthusiasm and unwavering dedication.

5) Following the “Quality Practice Checklist” | a Rubric for Parents:

  • Parents are asked to follow the rubric provided to support their child's piano education. The rubric serves as a guideline for assessing their progress and identifying areas of improvement. By aligning with the rubric, you can help facilitate their growth and ensure a well-rounded musical education.

Music-making brings people together. It compels people to work together. It demands people listen to each other. It encourages people to express together. It insists people consider each other. It helps people produce something wonderful together. Music-making is awesome-making.
