The Music Artistry Program (MAP) of WSMTA is an annual event developed for students to encourage the pursuit of fine arts in music and maintain virtuosic musicianship standards. Keep scrolling to read more about this amazing program and listen to Con Brio Piano Studio’s honor’s recital finalist!

FOR THE STUDENT

The Music Artistry Program allows students to set goals that encourage preparation beyond the normal weekly routine.

Perform for a highly-respected visiting artist.

Work one-on-one with the visiting artist to improve your performance.

Receive written and oral comments, along with a certificate for your hard work.

For the PARENT

The Music Artistry Program serves as a goal for your child to prepare two memorized pieces

A non-competitive format encourages learning, rather than comparison with others.

Visiting artists are experienced teachers with advanced training, have been carefully screened by WSMTA, are nationally certified by MTNA and many serve on college faculties around the Northwest.

For the TEACHER

Teachers can observe their students’ lessons from a third-person perspective, often seeing new ways to approach difficult situations or unique problems.

The teacher can share ideas and questions with a supportive colleague during one-on-one time with the visiting artist after they have heard students.

Discover trends and areas which may need improvement.

Each year, participating MAP students who are successful in meeting certain criteria are invited to perform in an Honor's Recital.

The MAP Honor's Recital is designed to provide recognition to the select students who prepared for MAPs superbly.

Special congratulations to Yifan Monroe for being selected to perform at this year's Honor Recital.

The Nocturne No. 20 in C♯ minor, Op. posth., Lento con gran espressione, P 1, No. 16, KKIVa/16, WN 37, is a solo piano piece composed by Frédéric Chopin in 1830 and published in 1875.

Frédéric Chopin’s Nocturnes offer a rich array of depth and emotion for both the pianist and listener, and Yifan's rendition of the C# minor equisitely expresses the tenderness and introspection we all love about Chopin’s music.

Yifan's dedication to capturing the essence of Chopin's masterpiece shines! The nuance was carefully crafted, every phrase infused with color. Congratulations, Yifan, on a stellar performance that resonates with all who experience it.

The reason I like this piece so much is because it immediately shows its true colors at the beginning, with its calm and soothing sonorities, like a whispered secret. When it gets to the end, it shows how Chopin can be so expressive yet so elegant at the same time. He seems to share his thoughts through the music, and it makes me think of stories and feelings in my mind. It feels like I’m in a journey through his soul, with every note revealing a new emotion and idea.

Yifan also performed Clementi’s Piano Sonatina, opus 36, no. 3 at the 2024 MAPs. Muzio Filippo Vincenzo Francesco Saverio Clementi was an Italian-British composer, virtuoso pianist, pedagogue, conductor, music publisher, editor, and piano manufacturer. He composed almost 110 piano sonatas including the six Progressive Pianoforte Sonatinas, op. 36, published in 1785.
